BistI Badlands/De-Na-Zin Wilderness (New Mexico)
The Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness area covers 45,000 acres of badlands just south of Farmington, New Mexico. This high desert wilderness features a vast landscape containing some of the most unique rock formation on this planet. The Bisti (pronounced bis-tie) was once a coastal swamp of an inland sea; and was home to many large trees, reptiles, dinosaurs and primitive mammals. What visitors see today is the preserved record of this pre-historic swamp that is now a true desert wilderness.
Petrified Log Alter
We found this petrified log on a rock pedestal in the Bisti Badlands of northern New Mexico. The log was so cool on the pedestal that it looked like it could have been alter used by the Anasazi Indians who lived in the area over 700 years ago. This wonderful surprise is why Teig and I love to explore the American West.
Badlands Faux Dino Rock
Exploring the Bisti Badlands in Northwest New Mexico is like exploring a “martian world”. The scenery is other worldly with wonderful rock formations covering the landscape. This specific specimen reminded me of a large dinosaurs vertebrae. Just imagine coming upon a dino vertebrae in the middle of the desert…. Wouldn’t that be a blast!

Classic Teig at Bisti Badlands
A classic Teig pose at the beautiful Bisti Badlands in the desert Southwest. This pose is what usually occurs when I tell Teig to wait and I raise my camera up… he then proceeds to sit down and stare magnificently off into the distance. He has perfected this regal pose and uses it all the time. Models seem to have their fall back comfort pose and I believe this is his. I can’t complain because I really do love the pose and I love him too!

Dog Tired at Bisti Badlands
Nearing the end of a very long day exploring in the Bisti Badlands of New Mexico, Teig and I found a spot to rest in the heavy shade of the rock formations. We had hiked over 14 miles and explored many of the canyons, washes and rock formations in the area. We had begun our adventure before sunrise and took many hundreds of photos, climbed up rocks and played chase in the sand and my boy was right by my side all day. When we sat here in the cool soft white sand, Teig’s eyes were beginning to shut and he laid his head down and fell into a well earned short slumber. We had a few minutes before sunset, some fantastic light to get some more photos and still a mile back to the truck but my friend could spend the next 10 minutes catching his breath and chasing those desert rabbits in his dreams.
