A lone marmot enjoying the sunny day on a granite rock. He was not too concerned with Teig and I hiking on the trail to Arapaho Glaciers in the Colorado Rockies.
Peaceful Contemplation at Cottonwood Pass
Teig resting in an alpine meadow on a saunter along the ridges above Cottonwood Pass in central Colorado. We like to take periodic breaks from hiking and just absorb the beauty of the high Rocky Mountains. It helps us keep centered and sane in our hectic crazy lives.
Resting in Shade of the Red Sandstone
Teig was enjoying the cool shade provided by the Aztec Sandstone while we were hiking in the Valley of Fire State Park.
Resting Among Dinosaur Eggs
Teig taking a rest in the patch of dinosaur eggs in the Bisti Badlands of New Mexico. What better place to take a load off then rock formations that look like prehistoric eggs?
Storm is Coming in the Medicine Bows
Teig and I were coming down from a saunter in the backcountry of the Medicine Bow National Forest in Southern Wyoming and stopped off at South Gap Lake for a snack. The ominous storm clouds which were brewing since lunch finally engulfed us. We tried to expedite our hike back to the trailhead but were unsuccessful and the rain and hail pelted us the last mile and a half. Even though we were soaked, it was a fantastic adventure well worth the effort.
Morning Sunrise on Snowy Range Lake
Teig and I watched the sunrise from South Twin Lake in the Snowy Range of Southern Wyoming. Life is so good when I can watch the beauty in nature with this guy. I relish these moments!
Resting in the Shaded Grass
Teig resting on a nice hike up Little Beaver Creek in the Front Range of Colorado. We will find shade under a tree to rest and have a snack. We were almost done with our hike this day and he was definitely enjoying the shade and soft grass.
Bull Elk Resting in Grass
A large bull elk relaxing on a late September morning in the high Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Resting in a Continental Divide Alpine Meadow
How about resting in an alpine meadow off the Continental Divide in the Colorado Rockies? Well Teig was doing just that on a hike to Skyscrapper Peak. This does relax the soul.
Traildog Resting at Geneva Mountain Pond
Teig found a nice snow patch to get cooled off on our hike up to Geneva Mountain near Guanella Pass. We adore our alpine hikes and can’t wait for the snow to recede and get up above the tree line. I believe this environment is the best for hiking. It affords us fantastic views of the peaks and valleys and fills our souls.
Resting on a Colorado Plateau
My Colorado Traildog resting on a flat rock overlooking the backcountry of western Colorado. We love our state and thoroughly enjoy exploring the unsettled areas far removed from civilization.
Resting on Whale Peak
What do you do when you bag a Colorado peak. Rest, take in the views, have a drink and maybe a quick nap!
Traildog Resting on Salt Flat
Sometimes you just need to relax when you are out playing on a salt flat in West Utah. Teig was enjoying the spring afternoon at a large salt flat near the village of Lucin near the Nevada border.
Bald Eagle Perched Above River
This Eagle was high above the Arkansas River in Central Colorado searching for his breakfast.
Asserting Dominance
While exploring the area around Sage Creek in Badlands National Park we came across this large bull American Bison. He was a good 30+ yards from us but was showing typical signs of dominance and “I am the big boy on the block”. He was rolling in the grass and dusting up the area around him. He was grunting and dropping his head. I heeded his display and moved in the opposite direction. These guys are so interesting, massive and mesmerizing to see in the wild. I really enjoy just watching them do their thing. South Dakota has numerous wild herds and is a fantastic place to check them out. I am so very happy that we didn’t hunt them to extinction and have instead reintroduced them to the wild in our wildlife refuges and parks.
