Hawk Eyes on Me

Raven in Winter above Redrocks”
Teig and I were exploring Mount Falcon outside of Morrison Colorado during a snowstorm when I captured this shot looking back to Redrocks Amphitheater. The raven in the tree was so interesting and I think he makes the composition.
Raptor on Take-Off
This Osprey was heading out from his perch into the Gulf of Mexico do do some fishing. He had spent some time watching me from his nest on Rabbit Key in Everglades National Park. These raptors are beautiful to watch and have a unique voice that you identify rather easily. The talons have an outer toe that is reversible, allowing them to grasp their prey with two toes in front and two behind. This is particularly helpful when they grab slippery fish.
Hawk Silhouette at Carolyn Holmberg Preserve
I find zen with a winter evening’s stroll around Carolyn Holmberg Nature Preserve in Broomfield Colorado. There are many species of birds and mammals that occupy this open space during the winter months. Keeping your eyes open and searching the trees you will most certainly find hawks and maybe an eagle perched in the branches. On this evening there was this hawk resting high in the cottonwood tree silhouetted against the beautiful colors in the sky from the setting sun. How lucky we are to witness the wonder and beauty of nature in Colorado.
Lone Raven Perched above Chaco Canyon
We were exploring the rim of Chaco Canyon when we came across this raven perched on the canyon wall hundreds of feet above the valley floor. Teig and I sat near him and he was not bothered by us. I loved his dark form contrasted to beautiful canyon walls. It was calming to watch him relax an the rims edge and the vast canyons stretch into the distance.
Songbirds during Snow Storm

Take Off of a Swainson's Hawk
Traveling the 4x4 roads north of the Great Salt Lake in Utah is an adventure. You come across a plethora of wild birds and critters. I photographed this hawk who sat on a fence post watching me create some landscape photographs of the lake. When I turned my attention to him, he decided that the interest had dissipated and he was “out here”. Made for a good “exit” photograph
Black-capped Chickadee and Snowflakes
This Chickadee was braving the snowflakes during a snowstorm at RedRocks Park outside of Morrison Colorado. FYI: The song of the Black-capped Chickadee is one of the most complex vocalizations of all animals, acting as a contact call, an alarm call, to identify an individual, or to indicate recognition of a particular flock
Bald Eagle Perched Above River
This Eagle was high above the Arkansas River in Central Colorado searching for his breakfast.
Bluebird on Pine Branch
When I am out exploring, I remind myself to look up periodically to change my perspective. Especially with trees around you can find fun scenes and wildlife enjoying the high life. On this day in the Colorado Front Range, I saw a small bluebird perched on a pine branch and it caught my fancy. Simple scenes draw my attention and I love how calm he was enjoying the calm Colorado late afternoon
