What a beautiful view of the Colorado Rockies from the High Line Canal Trail in Englewood. As a Coloradoan, I sometimes take these gorgeous views for granted. This location is in the heart of our metropolis on an urban trail that gets well used by the city folk. Even though this trail is quite crowded in the summer it has fairly light use in the winter months and is great to capture a bit of nature in the big city.
Front Range across Sloan’s Lake
A beautiful view of the Rocky mountains across Sloan’s Lake in Denver Colorado. Viewing the snow capped peaks is one my favorite views from this lake and park.
The Denver Skyline across Sloan’s Lake
Downtown Denver's Skyscrapers across Sloan's Lake in mid-winter. This park is frequented by the public wanting to enjoy a stroll around the lake and get outside for fresh air.
Clear Creek Flowing under Christmas Footbridge
Clear Creek was not completely frozen over during the holidays. Beautiful Christmas lights lined the footbridge and the creek flowed towards downtown Golden and to Coors Brewery beyond.
Golden Footbridge Holiday Lights
The city of Golden Colorado lights up Clear Creek Trail for the holidays and this is the footbridge with beautiful lights. Fog was moving into the valley before the snowstorm.
White Hill in Bisti Rock Field
A white "Mountain" in some interesting rock formations deep inside the Bisti Badlands. This area was once a riverine delta that lay just to the west of the shore of an ancient sea, the Western Interior Seaway, which covered much of New Mexico 70 million years ago.
Petrified Log Alter
We found this petrified log on a rock pedestal in the Bisti Badlands of northern New Mexico. The log was so cool on the pedestal that it looked like it could have been alter used by the Anasazi Indians who lived in the area over 700 years ago. This wonderful surprise is why Teig and I love to explore the American West.
Boot Prints on the Badlands
Some sauntering explorer crossed the Bisti Badlands on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. We came across these boot prints while doing some of our own exploration of this fantastic desert landscape. I wonder what interesting things they encountered on their walkabout?
Farewell Sunshine on Flat Rock
Last rays of the autumn sun reflecting off a beautiful flat rock formation in the Bisti Badlands of New Mexico.
Bisti Badland Rock Field
There are numerous rock fields to explore at Bisti Badlands in New Mexico. We came across this one and loved these twisted unique rocks in a basin. Sauntering in this surreal landscape is uber fun and fulfilling.
Red Table Top Rocks in Bisti Badlands
These beautiful rock formations are found in Bisti Badlands on the Navajo Reservation in Northwestern New Mexico. Teig and I love exploring this wonderful location whenever we are close to my home town of Farmington. It is a great day hike location especially in November, which was when we were here for this shoot.
Rustic Cabin in Sylvan Valley
Sylvan means "a peaceful, wooded place" and this scene exemplifies that phrase. Teig and I spent a weekend exploring this area west of Vail Colorado and was pleasantly surprised at it's quaint beauty. Steep valleys and high peaks with aspen groves, lodgepole pine and Douglas fir forests on moist slopes with Ponderosa pines and junipers found on drier slopes.
Pond with Fall Color on Three Mile Creek
Teig and I stopped off at a little beaver pond on Three Mile Creek on our way back to the trailhead in the Mount Evans Wilderness. Teig was being his typical attentive self and was searching for trout that may be rising for food. I think he would have been a serious fly-fisherman if he was homosapien.
Autumn Leaves in Three Mile Creek
As the season changes in the Rocky Mountains the streams are littered with beautiful gold and orange leaves from the shedding aspens. I was sitting next to Three Mile Creek in the Mount Evans Wilderness meditating with my thoughts and absorbing the calm soft colors in this splendid little creek. I believe these moments are required to keep my sanity in this modern hectic life.
Medicine Bow Peak from Summit Trail
Our view of Medicine Bow Peak on our way up the trail to the summit. Teig and I were enjoying the puffy white clouds and the beautiful bright granite face of the mountains in this wilderness of southern Wyoming.
Thor's Hammer in Bryce Canyon
Thor's Hammer, the left side of the photo, at Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah. Thor's Hammer is a spectacular example of a hoodoo, which is sometimes referred to as a tent rock or fairy chimney. They form because of erosion processes and may be found in badland areas whenever relatively hard rock overlays softer more erodible rock, such as sandstone. Thors Hammer is one the Iconic hoodoos in Bryce Canyon and can be seen from Navajo Trail.
Storm is Coming in the Medicine Bows
Teig and I were coming down from a saunter in the backcountry of the Medicine Bow National Forest in Southern Wyoming and stopped off at South Gap Lake for a snack. The ominous storm clouds which were brewing since lunch finally engulfed us. We tried to expedite our hike back to the trailhead but were unsuccessful and the rain and hail pelted us the last mile and a half. Even though we were soaked, it was a fantastic adventure well worth the effort.
Warm Fall Colors Near Buena Vista
The warm sensation one feels when they approach a colorful stand of Colorado autumn aspens.
Vacant Raptor Nest in Baggot Rocks
A very large raptor nest sit upon a large rock formation near Encampment Wyoming. Baggot Rocks is a large grouping of rocks next to the Encampment River and has a beautiful orange color when the rays of the late summer summer sun sets to the west.
Lake Marie
Lake Marie sits at the base of Medicine Bow peak in southern Wyoming. Sun was setting on the southern edge of the peak and the winds were kicking up advancing the waves on this beautiful lake. The contrast of the warm sun and the chilly shade was welcomed after a hike to the summit of the peak.
