A couple of ducks swimming together on Kountze lake in Lakewood Colorado.
Snow above Parshall Colorado
Teig resting in a field of snow leftover from the winter snows above Parshall Colorado. We had a fun day exploring the hills and ridges with the Colorado River flowing through the valley below. My brother was flyfishing but we decided we needed to stretch our legs and climb a few of the hills and get some fantastic views in this area.
Icicles in Bear Creek
Many of the plants next to Bear Creek in Colorado freeze in winter. These branches look fascinating with the thick ice and light shining through them.
Pair of Snow Geese in Flight
A pair of beautiful white snow geese flying overhead at the Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Refuge in central New Mexico.
Aspen Scars
Some interesting scars on an aspen tree off of the Burning Bear trail. They appear to be bear claw marks probably from a bear climbing the tree. I find these scars so interesting and can hint to a story from the past. It is fun to imagine the bear climbing the tree and hypothesize why he was doing it.
Waterfall on Lake Fork Creek
Autumn is a beautiful time to be in the Colorado Front Range. Sauntering up to Gibson Lake along Lake Fork Creek we came across numerous beautiful waterfalls in the dappled light of the forest. This fall was so nice in the shade that we had to stop and eat lunch next to it and enjoy the cool mist.
Valley with Geneva Creek
A view east down the valley of Geneva Creek near Guanella Pass in the Front Range Mountains of Colorado. Just after sunset in the western peaks, this was a good look down this popular camping area with ponds and the meandering creek.
Resting Off Trail in the Dappled Light
Teig resting on our way down from Whitney Lake in Colorado's Holy Cross Wilderness. We were next to the creek taking a rest from our saunter to the lake and back. These moments are some of my favorites because we feel a bit tired and are content with just experiencing nature.
Light on the Green Mountains behind Vail
We were exploring Piney River Road north of Vail and it was getting near sunset. The light broke through the heavy clouds and cast beautiful light on the mountains in the distance. These special scenes make it all worth exploring the backcountry of Colorado.
Momma Porcupine in a Tree
For the second time in as many weeks we ran into a porcupine on a trail north of Vail, Colorado. She was huge and a mamma walking toward Teig and I. She couldn't recognize us until she was about 25 feet away. Luckily, Teig was on leash at the moment and their was no altercation. I let her move to a nearby tree and climb up about eight feet before getting this photograph of her where she felt safe. She was gorgeous.
Colorado River at the Pumphouse
An aerial view of the Colorado River flowing west out of Gore Canyon towards Radium Colorado with the sunset looming over the Rocky Mountains.
Memorial Day Snow on Red Mountain
Memorial Day snow hit the Front Range Mountains of Colorado. It was a beautiful sight to see the snow on Red Peak near Berthoud Pass. Puts a big smile on my face.
Traildog in Williams Fork River
Springtime on the Williams Fork River near the confluence with the Colorado River. Teig was enjoying the cool afternoon playing in the river.
Teig Next to the Colorado River
We were exploring the Williams Fork and Colorado River confluence on a cool Spring day near Hot Sulfur Springs , Colorado. The spring run-off was in full sprint and Teig and I were enjoying watching the birds and the fly-fisherman along the rivers. Not a bad way to spend a day playing hookie from work.
Traildog above Colorado River
Teig in the snow above the Colorado River valley near Hot Sulfur Springs in northern Colorado. We were exploring the Williams Fork Creek nearby and decided to hike up one of the small mountains and get a view of the area. It was worth the work.
Moon Powering Up
A near full moon was rising into the sky while I was on the top of South Table Mountain outside of Golden, Colorado. I captured it right above the one of huge power line towers that cross the mesa.
Down the Trail from Boulders
Teig coming down the trail from a cool boulder formation near Sheeprock. We had fun playing in the rocks and were making our way back to camp before the dark of night.
Beautiful Evening on Sheeprock Trail
Teig sauntering on a trail after sunset with Sheeprock in the distance. We were enjoying our first night out camping in the Front Range Mountains for 2020. It is so relaxing to get a nice hike in at sunset and capture a few photos to boot!
Traildog Paws in Rocky Mountain Pond
Teig was stalking wild trout at a series of ponds in Pike National Forest near Florrisant Colorado. He patiently waits at the edge for the fish to rise and then swims out to snatch them. He is not very successful with this method. He does much better when I am flyfishing and I have a nice trout on the line... his success rate is then stellar.
Full Sprint in Snow
Teig in full sprint through the deep snow on South Table Mountain. He definitely blends into the snow when the snow is coming down hard.
